Frank Farian is my new Hero…

By rawlio

This guy is my new hero.

Who is he?

Well, according to Wikipedia, Frank Farian  is the guy who created Boney M and then help produce many other people, including Milli Vanilli.

He was just some producer who liked R&B and Disco style music, but was aware that nobody would come and see him perform.  He then found people who looked convincing and wrote and produced the music for them.

Boney M..

Seriously.   check it out.

Trying out some new themes…

By rawlio

Just seeing what’s up. There was an update to my old theme, and it wasn’t as nice as I thought.

I hope this is ok….

The Reality Check

By rawlio

So, I listen to a few podcast on my way to work. One of them is a skeptical podcast from Ottawa called ‘the Reality Check’.  It’s amazing, and the topics are fantastic.

So, they have a ‘feedback/question’ section that I particpate in, and I sometimes comment on their questions.  In the last podcast, I was mentiioned. That’s so neat..

If you wanna hear my name (slaughtered), go to the Reality Check and check out Podcast #167, and at minute 4:30~5:15, it’s the part about my comment.

Sweet.  I’m Podcast pseudo-famous!

Remembrance Day

By rawlio

It’s Remembrance Day.

Please, please, Please….

Take a minute at 11:11am (or as close as possible) to this time to take a moment.

There are those who gave themselves so we can have what we enjoy in Canada and North America.  We truly are lucky, and often we take this for granted.

It’s just a moment, you have plenty of time to forget them the rest of the time.  But, take this time now…

The Allure of Daytime Television…

By rawlio

I was home during the day a few times and I got hooked at watching bad Daytime TV. The People’s Court and Maury caught my attention.

After watching every Maury Show that is ‘Who’s the Daddy…’ (which is pretty much every single one) I decided to find out why Maury has decided to pursue this line of TV show.

Historically, Maury was a cutting edge Journalist. He help build the show “A current affair’ which was both Tabloid entertainment and human issue stories. He was pretty good in that.  I remember being quite impressed at what he used to do.

He then wrangles a TV show, which was competing against some of the bigger Daytime TV Talk shows.  Apparently he figured out a good formula and has maintained it.

Shirea L. Caroll Wrote on the site, “The Root”  an article of why Maury is still on the air.  I didn’t write this below, but I wanted to share this with you…it’s quite funny.

1. Invite a woman–any woman, ranging from the zany and boisterous to the meek and suspicious–who’s got a hankering to publicly prove that her boyfriend/husband/ex/fling/supposed baby daddy is the father of her child. Extra points if she’s an extra-extroverted exhibitionist.

2. Bring out the man she is calling the father, who then completely denies that he could be the child’s father. Displays of complete disrespect and utter contempt highly desirable. Even better if he starts calling her a slut.

3. Let them both state their cases and air their dirty laundry with what always proves to be the biggest act of foolery, whether it be cartwheeling across the stage in celebration or having the suspected father get a haircut with “I am not the father” penned in his head.

4. Cut to commercial.

5. Maury pulls out a big manila envelope and reads the nail-biting, DNA-test results: “You ARE/ARE NOT the father!”

6. If he is the father, the woman does a celebratory I-told-you-so dance.

7. If he is NOT the father, the woman runs backstage screaming and crying, and then is comforted by Maury who asks, “Could it be anyone else?” The putative father does his celebratory I-told-you-so-dance.

8. Six weeks later, the woman reappears with another potential baby daddy, and the sordid cycle repeats.

It’s interesting.  apparently, Maury still pulls in 3.4 million views per episode, which is great for networks.  Has Maury sold out?  He has been asked a few times, which he says that he does try to bring some ‘happiness’ into the lives of these people, and to help those who need the help.

I can see that this help does come with a price, but after Maury gets his cut, who’s laughing?

Just strange.

Steve Ford – RIP.

By rawlio

I’ve been dreading making this post.
I truly have.
Steve ford died last Monday in a tragic Scuba Diving accident.
He left 2 daughters and a wife.

I’m finally coming to terms with this. I know that most of you who read this blog were aware of Steve and what happened, but for me, this is how I get closure and how it’s now ‘real’ to me.

I went Steve’s funeral today. Steve is only a year older than me but for someone like that to die in a tragic accident seems…unfair.
Is life fair? nope.
Does life suck. You bet.
And for some reason, I’m still having an issue coming to terms with this.

With Mom, that made sense. She got sick, she didn’t respond to the treatment, the Cancer spread, and did what cancer does…it kills. Mom fought a valiant battle, and succumbed to 3 types of cancer. Mom beat a previous cancer years before, which was unknown to pretty much everyone.

Steve? no cancer. No bad disease. No horrible thing which you saw the bad stuff, and knew the ending.

This was the surprise ending that nobody expected.
This is why I have had a hard time accepting.

I like surprises. This was a surprise. I hate it.

I have lots going on, and I’m quite grateful. Tiiu is doing really well. Work is amazing. Linda is the greatest companion one could ask (other than Q, but that’s another dimension!).

But, this has been eating on my conscious since last Tuesday.

I made a vague reference tweet about it, but that was it. It wasn’t to protect the privacy of the family, but I chose not to talk about it as it didn’t feel right.

I actually went on the notion of “Maybe if you don’t talk about it, it’ll go away” which is so childish and silly.

It didn’t go away. It ended today at 2:00. I saw them walk his coffin out, and drove off.

So long, Steve Ford. So long.

OpenOffice vs. MS Office…

By rawlio

I have a dirty little secret…kinda.

I’m using a PC laptop. Ok, I said it. I feel dirty, and common.
But at work, a file system I need to access only can be accessed through a PC, which burns me to no end. It’s like they decided to screw over the MAC users and not suppor them.
So, I ‘converted’ an old Laptop for my purposes and now I’m loading on things I need for work. Again, I love my lil’ MacBook (not iBook….) but I need to do work on this, so that’s why I’m on a PC…

I’ve asked my peeps for a copy of MS Office, but one disc was corrupt so I have to get that recifited…I think the person will read this and wonder what’s up…I just haven’t told him yet. I think it was a small glitch of a 1 not being a 0, that kinda thing…anyway…

I have to type some things up, and I wanted to check out OpenOffice. I mean, I’m an Android guy, I use Firefox…why wouldn’t I be happy with an OpenSourse Word Processer? So, I’m downloading it, and gonna try it out.

For the meantime, I’ve been using Google Docs, which has been quite fine for now, but I wonder if OpenOffice will be my new fav?
