I’ve Hit my Limit
Sep 3rd
With Rogers, apparently I’ve hit my maximum allowed this month. Sure, I’ve been uploading huge files to YouTube and downloading other things
It’s amazing, as usually I don’t even touch my maximum, let alone get close to it. I’ve seen my usage for the past few years and I rarely get up to 2GB of data transfer…Total!
This has been a busy summer. Tiiu has spurred a whole new set of hobbies, which take up bandwidth. Even sending pics to friends and family I bet gets counted in that total. But Wow….I feel like an Internet Waster…
But don’t fear, I’ll still post.
Things that Suck…
Aug 23rd
Well, not really. It’s more of a blog about what we call the pacifier. Linda and I debated whether to use a pacifier or not with Tiiu. There are as many pros as there are cons, so we’ve decided to use it sparingly. We’ve noticed that on evenings, Tiiu gets cranky which
is pretty normal for babies. Apparently it’s a normal thing, as babies have pent up energy that they need to get out, and this is how they do it.
So, we’ve been given a pacifier that is BPA free, made of 100% medical Grade Silicone, which has many fantastic uses. It is the Gumdrop Pacifier, which is pretty neat. It’s once piece, and comes in many colours. It’s supposed to be the better pacifier for babies, but hey…it works.
So, using the pacifier, we didn’t want to call it the names that most people do. Binky seemed strange to us, so did Sookie and other names. Instead, Linda and I brainstormed a few things that we thought sucked and we came up with some things.
Vampires. They definitely suck. They suck blood, and they suck the life out of people to which they grant eternal life. Calling it a ‘Vampire’ was kinda tough…
“Hey Tiiu, want your vampire?”
“Where’s your Vampy?”
Again, I was getting ideas for Buffy, but she’s a Vampire Slayer, and defiantly does not suck.
The Dyson Vacuum – With Cyclone Technology. It sucks. It sucks large and never stops sucking.
James Dyson worked on many modes to make sure his vacuum doen’t stop sucking. But calling the Pacifier, the Dyson, Linda wasn’t down with it.
“Hey Tiiu, want your Dyson? Where’s your Dyson?”
“Are you cranky? Did you lose your Dyson?”
I liked it, But Linda didn’t. So, we kept looking.
Telemarketers. They defiantly suck. But a name that was appropriate didn’t quite work either.
“Hey Tiiu, where’s your Telemarketer?”
“do you want your Telemarketer? Yes, you do!”
No, didn’t work. On a separate note, if the telemarketer looked that this, I think they would not be as hated. (I’m just saying.
Finally, we came up with a name: Linda holds this opinion, but I don’t.
Doogie Howser – Neil Patrick Harris. Linda hated the show Doogie Hoswer. She thought Doogie Howser sucked so much, she still remembers it. She thought it was one of the worst ideas for a show ever. She wanted to call it the Doogie, but I suggested that Doogie Hoswer was really Neil Patrick Harris. There was a movie (Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle) where they refer to him as NPH. She was quite happy with that, so we’ve been calling the Pacifier, the NPH or The Neil Patrick.
“Where’s your NPH? oh, did it fall on the ground?”
“is Neil Patrick Dirty? we can get the Pink NPH for you?”
For some reason, it works for us, and we now call it the NPH.
I like Neil Patrick, so my apologies to You, Neil…if you do read this. Take it as an honour that you are pacifying our daughter.
Other names that didn’t make it was the Alex Trebek. All because Linda wasn’t a fan of the SNL episodes where Sean Connery would yell out “Suck It, Trebek“….
Again, I like Alex Trebek too. You too, Kebert Xela!
Am I lazy?
Aug 21st
By this, I mean: Do I take the lazy way out of most things in life?
I know of people who seem to choose to do things, but in the most difficult way. I’ve chosen a path that did have a few bumps along the way, but for the most part, I’m quite happy. I
Growing up, I wanted to have a family, and a decent job that I enjoyed. With hard work, I got a job that I love and then I met a wonderful person who I can share a life with. Through that, we’ve obtained a house, and ‘stuff’ that most people collect. We’ve travelled, we’ve experienced different things, good and bad; we’ve grown and we’ve even added, by bringing Tiiu into the world.
But I think this path was generally easy. I mean, i followed the directions and for the most part I got what I wanted.
Now, reflecting upon what I have, I see people who have the same thing, but have worked really hard. Again, that’s good. But some of the paths they have taken seemed to be more difficult.
Is it that I’m lazy or I have Linda to help? Or, maybe Linda is doing all the work, and I think it’s easy.
I dunno.
Y’know, I don’t know where this entry is going.
Does the 3-second Rule Exist?
Aug 19th
After having Tiiu, I have started to think about these things. Tiiu, being very young is still being nursed, so this doesn’t really mean much to her. But when she gets older and things fall on the ground, what’s the protocol.
The 3-second Rule popped in my head, and I was left wondering if this is true. According to RJAK from a website,
Three cookies and three banana slices are put on three plates, one of each on each plate. This is to determine whether the texture of a food helps the bacteria stick on. Another cookie and banana is left alone because it is the control.
One plate of food is dropped on the ground, and is left there for three minutes. Two and a half minutes later the second plate is dropped, and with three seconds left the last plate is dropped
The specimens were then wrapped up and sent to a lab. Over there the bacterial were smeared on agar plates and left to grow for a prolonged period of time.
The results:
Three minutes:
The cookie had 10 to 100 colonies of bacteria. So did the banana.
Thirty seconds:
They both had the same as the three minute sample.
Three seconds:
Cookie: 5-10
Banana: 5-10
**************************************************************************
The experiment proves that there is no such thing as the three second rule. Take in mind that bacteria are infinitesimally small and one colony contains over 1 million bacteria which is enough to make you terribly sick! This also demonstrated that bacteria even found a foothold on these dry biscuits! So next time if your food drops on the floor, don’t take chances with your health. Bin it.

Interesting. This is good to know. Often you hear or see people doing these things. Even putting things down on a table, you never know what could be waiting.
Habits of little Tiiu.
Aug 13th
Here are some observations I have made about my little Tiiu.
1. Sleeping like a baby- Babies sleep soundly and quietly.
If your baby does, good for you. This kid is quite loud when she sleeps. She grunts, groans, makes sounds, and sometimes snores. True, I can tell it’s my baby, but still…she’s a noisy sleeper.
2. Law of Conservation – I’ve notices that Tiiu seems to produce more output than she consumes for input. Case in point – When I change her, I think she’s done. Lo and behold, nope. More and more keep coming out. and a tiny body that can store so much and have it eject at such a force? There’s gotta be a rip in the time/space fabric inside her little G.I Track.
3. Babies are Cute, but I can never prove that – Tiiu has this amazing ability to look super cute at times, and then when I get the camera, she looks like a viral Baby pic from depths of the internet. Even when people are ready to take her picture, she likes to tease with a cute smile, and then make some face from the 2nd circle of hell for the actual shot.
4. Muscle Control – She loves to do the ‘Usain Bolt’ pose, which I think is cool. Maybe he got it from a baby?
Cottage Friday
Aug 6th
Today was Tiiu’s first Cottage visit. Sure, she slept most of the way, and most of her time there.
That’s the life of a baby.
An Errand Day..
Aug 4th
We were up early to make an appointment in North York this morning. Luckily, we were able to catch the Yummy IKEA breakfast after, which is always nice. It’s Tiiu’s 2nd meal out, which of course, she slept through. Nevertheless, Linda and I enjoyed ourselves.
As well, I went to the gym, and then I bought some Peaches ‘n Cream Corn. I’m not sure what that means, but it tastes pretty sweet.
Happy Caribana! (and there’s a cooking Vlog)
Jul 31st
So, It’s Caribana. It looks like it’s amazing weather. I was dancing my living room with Tiiu, so I did my part. Also, check out the cooking vlog. It’s longer than I expected. You’ll waste 8 minutes of your life.
Have a happy Long Weekend, Folks…
Jul 30th
It’s the start of the Canadian Summer Long weekend, which is known as Civic Holiday. Civic holiday is just the holiday between Canada Day and Labour day that allows people to have a day off, and enjoy the summer.
Linda, Tiiu and I will be spending our Civic Holiday at home, relaxing and doing stuff around the house. Specifically, Tiiu will be sleeping and eating, whilst Linda and I cater to her every need.
And, I’m editing a new Vlog…The Cooking show!
The Results of a Newborn…
Jul 30th
Well, it’s not really the results, more of a by-product of having a new-born in the house. here’s what has transpired since the arrival of Tiiu (and slightly before her arrival!).
- rawl.ca – obviously you’re following this website. But since Blogger decided not to support the FTP i was lost to get on something. I was playing with the WordPress format, but I couldn’t get the MySQL databases right…after some emailing, fiddling and reading, I got them running and VOILA! the new and improved Rawl.ca.
- Basic Flash videos – I did some basic flash vids, as I was wondering how to do some simple animation. I found that there is a ‘anime’ program that people use to make anime, so I’m on the prowl for that piece of software
- Vlogs – yeah, new camera, time to spare, and a yearning to get rawl.ca cannibalized. From text to speech, that’s a different direction for Rawlio’s world.
- Video-editing – I’m playing with iMovie currently, but i got hold of a copy of Final Cut Express. I wanted to play with Final Cut Pro, but my little macbook is not really wired for that kinda output.
- Sequencing – this was Post-Tiiu. I got some songs done with Garageband. I’ve been trying to find a working copy of CuBase, but for some reason, It doesn’t want to work on this machine….some more playing and research, I’ll get it done. My Goal is to try to make a rap/hip-hop song before the summer’s out.
- Macbook Streaming to PS3/xBox360 - I’ve played with some audio/video streaming with this. I wanted to get a ‘media server’ running in the house, but it requires the mac to be on….hmm..how do I get around that?
- Mad-torrents – I’ve been torrenting more than ever. I know that everyone, and their Chinese cousins have been burning movies to disc, but I wanted to try to see if i could do that. Again, I’m torn to do it. Not for the moral issue, but more of the ‘collector’ issue. People seem to do these mad-torrent burns of movies…watch them, then they sit in a spindle of movies for a long time. Linda and I watch streamed shows…and I think we’ll continue to do that.
- Music Video? Home Reno Video? Me hanging out video? – I’ve got some ideas for some videos…why videos? Storage space. On Youtube, you can upload your vids, and they store them. Me? I’m using up my limited Web-space with some pictures..which I have figure out where I can put them..or just keep rotating them. i’m not sure.
So, what’s next? I was toying with a Rawlio – FAQ, but that’ll be just for my entertainment. Who knows? ideas and suggestions are welcome.
Oh, I should do a contact page, shouldn’t I?
